Demonstrators act out funeral for Iraqi civilians

(04-13) 20:03 PDT SAN FRANCISCO (AP) --

Anti-war demonstrators staged a mock funeral for Iraqi civilian victims Sunday, although the turn-out at the event was far smaller than at earlier protests.

Demonstrators gathered in front of the San Francisco federal building, where they placed flowers and held the mock funeral.

The event, sponsored by an interfaith religious group, also included singing and speeches.

About 100 people attended the event, a steep decline from earlier anti-war protests in the Bay Area.

The group sponsoring the event, Religious Witness with Homeless People, said the cost of the war has taken money from social programs that help the homeless in the United States.
